History

Bridge Community Health Clinic historyBridge Clinic started due to the vision and hard work of local community partners. These partners wanted to ensure that refugees coming to Wausau from South East Asia had a medical clinic that that provided culturally sensitive care and translation services. After a successful application to the Health and Resources Services Administration (HRSA), Bridge Clinic was incorporated in 1993 and opened in 1995 as a Federally Qualified Health Center.

Dental Services were added in 1997. An expanded dental wing opened in 2002. By 2008, two satellite dental clinics opened, one in Antigo and one in Merrill. In 2013, the Wausau dental site was again expanded and renovated to keep up with the amount of need in the area.

Behavioral Health services were added in 2009, offering individual and family counseling and medication management services.

Bridge Clinic is a healthcare home for approximately 7500 patients each year with over 23,000 visits. Our patients are as diverse as our care teams: young and old, well-off and struggling, healthy and facing illness. Because of our diversity, you will never feel judged at Bridge Clinic.

Today, we are proud of our ongoing commitment to helping our communities be healthier and ensuring high-quality, affordable healthcare for all. In 2014, our dedication earned the clinic the Wausau Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business of the Year Award in the not-for-profit category. In that same year, we received a perfect survey from HRSA, our Federal governing agency.

We invite you to become a patient at Bridge Clinic and see the difference an FQHC healthcare home can make.
